It is less well known, some would say —it is a hidden secret— that Sri Lanka has a significant and rich mixed Buddhist past.
Many of the historic early Buddhist schools sites have only been acknowledged recently. In fact, the biggest stupa on the island has just been recovered from the jungle — scaffolding was removed in 2015.
